Children's Party Ideas - A Play Dough Party Extravaganza

If your child loves play dough, this is the party to have. It may be a little messy, but the items needed are simple and the children will have tons of fun.

First, choose whether you are going to make play dough or used the store bought kind. There are many recipes to choose from on the internet that are made with different materials. The option to make your own will take more time, but may save on costs. You can also purchase off brand play dough at dollar stores or the real thing at discount stores or grocery stores. The benefit to the name brand play dough is that the consistency and smell are much better than some of the more expensive brands. It also keeps longer than home made. Plan on purchasing or making one cup or one container per child.

Second, gather your cutters and tools. I purchased child size cookie cutters and rollers from the toy department. There are many large containers that are used for playing with play dough. I also added some kitchen gadgets that would also work. You could also search thrift stores to find tools that would work.

Third, set up the tables. I used a small craft table and my kitchen table. Remove the chairs and let them stand up to play. If you have carpet, cover the carpet with a vinyl shower curtain. Most play doughs wash up easily, but it will make clean up easier to protect your carpet. If the weather is nice, you could also set up in the yard or on a porch. If you use a picnic table, cover the table for smooth rolling.

Extra items you may need:
For invitations, use primary colored scrapbooking paper and make your own. You can print the information on a white sheet of vellum and attach it to a piece of bright colored card stock with a brad. You can also buy some simple invitations that have lots of bright colors and hand-write them.

For the cake, you can make your own mulit-colored cake or choose any cake from the bakery or grocery store. Get brightly colored plates and serve brightly colored food and you ready to have your play dough extravaganza.

For party favors, have play dough and tool ready to send home with the children in a bright colored bag. Add in some candy and you are done.
